Contestants Show Class on Nigerian Idol 5

The thrills and fun that have been the themed ambience of the on-going season five of the Nigerian Idol TV reality Show continued excitedly at the weekend with the five remaining contestants taking to the stage to perform rave-making contemporary Nigerian hits.

The contestants were scheduled to roll on a two-leg solo performance on the night, thus setting the stage for each to put up a serious fight for the multi-million naira top prize in contention.

The night however started off on a low key with the duo of Classiq Tunez and Preye failing to deliver on their renditions of Wizkid’s Show me the money and Johnny by Yemi Alade respectively.

Classiq Tunez had struggles with his pitch as observed by Mannie, a guest judge and On-Air-Personality on Cool fm; Preye, on the other hand, produced a somewhat interesting performance, but did not light up the stage with the appropriate energetic dance required to match the theme of the song. The night however, came alive with Dolu who performed Tiwa Savage’s Wanted. Her performance did not go un-noticed by the Judges.

“After all the struggles, it’s nice to see you come of age. You are beginning to own the stage, oozing confidence,” remarked Darey.

Fans favourite, K-Peace picked up the tempo from where Dolu left off with a rendition of Shake body by Skales in a performance that had a near perfect stagecraft mixed with balance and confidence, and so electrifying and sensational to warrant a standing ovation from Darey who could not help rechristening the performance ‘As E Dey Hot’.

“I can watch him all night. He looks like a true performer, let’s be honest. The song is not exactly vocally challenging, but he showed the ability to carry the audience along and get response from them because he is a performer,” added an elated guest judge, Mannie.

Nex2’s performance of Davido’s Gobe was a reflection of the typical energetic performance he appears to have made his own on the show.
