In what smacks of a home-coming,
hilarious franchise, Comedy Central returns this February to Joburg’s
legendary Parker’s Comedy & Jive, as the comedy showcase takes over
a new slot on the last Thursday of every month.
The first Jo’burg
show of the new season will combine established and rising stand-ups, with
Dusty Rich at the helm, Glen Biderman-Pam as support and Richelieu Beaunoir
wielding the mic as MC. Up-and-coming comics will get their chance at the
spotlight too, as Comedy Central (DStv Premium, channel 122) opens up the mic
to 3 wannabe stand-ups.
Self-dubbed “maverick,
comedian, raconteur and anomaly”, Dusty Rich’s
stand-up is as original as it is manic. Supremely confident, edgy and alternative,
Dusty couples incredible physicality with material that is as varied as the
ideas that speed through his mind and straight out of his mouth.
Wrapping it all up with a
unique wit and intelligence that allows him to seamlessly transcend the space
between accepted notions and the nonsensical, Dusty’s
surreal musings are always fresh, off-centre and on target, while his hair
trigger wit means audience interactions are welcomed and encouraged.
