Erelu Dosumu Tasks Women To Be Steadfast During Polls

The participation of women in governance process at all levels, and the recognition by institutions of women's rights and needs are central to good governance.
This assertion was made by HRH Erelu (Dr.) Abiola Dosumu on the occasion of the 2nd Coalition of Concerned Women for Good Good Governance (CCWGG) interactive session with aspirants of registered political parties, Women's Organisations and other stakeholders staged at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA).
In her opening remarks, HRH Erelu Dosumu called on women to gird their loins to save the situation bearing in mind that whatever affects women affects the majority of the populace.
"These sessions are a clarion call for women to wake up from their slumber and rise up to their responsibility as nation builders. Our children have turned out the way we have brought them up; some are definitely guilty of wrong doings. It is time we gird our loins and save the situation.
"We contribute the greater percentage of actual voters on Election Day, and we are the ones who would queue endlessly in the rain and sun to cast our votes. If violence should erupt, we are the first to be affected by losing our goods and wares, even our husbands, sons and daughters. Why then do we want to give such enormous powers in return for a loaf of bread or at best for N5,000 (five thousand naira)?" She asked.
In addition, HRH Erelu Dosumu urged women to collect their PVC's and guard it jealously. She also noted that the PVC is a veritable instrument which ensures that the best leaders emerge for Nigeria in the next dispensation.
"Choose wisely a leader that will build on the gains of our leaders past. Vote for leaders that would ensure the integrity of Nigeria and protect the oneness and indivisibility of our great nation." She said.
The interactive session which had Dr. Pat Utomi, PDP Gubernatorial candidate, Jimi Agbaje and other party representatives in attendance was staged with the aim of raising awareness especially among women about the importance of making an informed decision and voting with a clear conscience for the right candidate, knowing that whoever is elected to public office is accountable to the electorate and also to encourage active participation in the forthcoming elections at all levels of society.
