Nigerian Toyin Adebola, for the next 60 days, will lead the Out Of Nigeria bike tour with the duo of filmmaker, Raph Goldberg and Fodeks to ride through 35 countries in two continents. From the Nigerian capital, they will travel up the West coast of Africa into Europe, through 25 European countries right up to the Arctic Circle and back down to Nigeria.
Without any support vehicles,
they will face many challenges on a journey shaped by recent world crises. The
original route from Nigeria to Europe has been diverted away from Boko Haram
and the Ebola zones, but into some of the most politically turbulent parts of
North Africa. Further on, upheavals in Ukraine and Russia, along with strict
visa processes have meant that the trip has had to be curtailed from its
previous plan of a round the world adventure.
But the team are ready to
take it all in their stride with confidence, openness and curiosity – and show
the world a positive new face of Nigeria.
According to Toyin, the driving
force behind Out of Nigeria, “The adventurers of history were European, but no
black Africans have done what we want to do – around-the-world motorcycle
journey. So we thought, why not us? This is the adventurous, open spirit we
want to bring to the world. And we want to inspire others to embark on their
own adventures.”
It will be a unique unfolding of new
sights, new experiences, new friends and maybe some old stereotypes broken –
all captured on film and shared from the road, in the heat of the action. As
well as [daily/regular] video uploads, the team will be keeping the world
updated via the Out of Nigeria blog and social media channels.
