The Prime Minister of Gabon Daniel Ona Ondo in the
presence of members of government, writers and artists opened the 3rd
edition of the International Book Fair and Arts Libreville (Silal) staged about
a week ago.
"The choice made by the organizers of this meeting
to pay tribute to a great person like Chinua Achebe honors this event and
really gives it an international dimension alongside national and local
productions," said the head of
government.
The literary festival has acquired increasing visibility
and importance over the years. In his remarks, the prime minister of Gabon
assured the gathering that the Gabonese government will continue to recognize
the benefits and advantages of this annual event. He underscored the need for a
platform that encourages the visibility of the expertise of artists and which
concomitantly promotes their works and crafts.
"This is, I am firmly convinced, an occasion of
pride, shared happiness offered to us.
I am particularly pleased with the quality and diversity of participants
that enhances the show, "testified
Prime Minister Daniel Ona Ondo.
According to him, Gabon will continue to support and
implement such initiatives that promote national and international artistic
creation. The 2015 edition of this Mass of literary culture will be celebrated
around communications, panel discussions, and roundtables focused on issues
related to the world of publishing in Africa, Gabon’s literary generation, the
new forms of expression and the various contours of art.
This year’s event is the festival’s third outing and drew
participants from eleven countries including the host country Gabon, Nigeria,
Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Senegal, Benin, Mali,
Burkina Faso, Niger and Korea - providing diverse elements and color of
particular interest to this event, which ran through April 4, 2015.
