The Coalition of Concerned Women for Good Governance
(CCWGG) through its President and Founder, HRH Erelu Abiola Dosumu has called
on the President-elect Muhammadu Buhari to employ sustained and concerted
action for good governance.
Speaking at the Nigerian Institute of International
Affairs on Tuesday, Erelu Dosumu posited that it is important and laudable to
have in place a process that we can now begin to plan with and refine.
“The 2015 Elections have come and gone and to a large extent
the results released and announced by INEC have been accepted by our people as
representing our voices as expressed by our votes. The more difficult task,
because it requires sustained and concerted action, is that of ensuring that
those who we have elected to govern us whether at Federal or State level
recognise that they are to serve the interest of the electorate.
“Good governance is very important at this stage in our nation’s
development. Good governance has been defined as the exercise of political,
economic and administrative authority to manage a nation’s affairs, and the
complex mechanisms, processes, relationships and institutions through which
citizens’ groups articulate their interests, exercise their rights and
obligations and also mediate their differences. Accountability, transparency,
participation and legitimacy are core elements. Gender responsiveness is
essential to all of these, and it is a measure of good governance.” She added.
She also called on citizens of Nigeria not to impose
questionable burdens on government officials in their private lives thereby
causing them to steal. “We must recognise that we all have a role to play as
citizens to achieve good governance. We must not impose questionable burdens on
government officials in their private lives thereby causing them to steal
public funds.
“When we are called to serve in whatever capacity, we
must carry out our responsibility to the highest standard and go over and
beyond the call of duty so that Nigeria can be restored to her place of honuor
and glory.” Erelu Dosumu said.
