Multi-talented artiste, Tunji Oyelana, and the sensational Oladapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D'banj, will, along with other artistes, entertain guests at an event being organized in honour of Professor Wole Soyinka on August 28, 2015 by leading telecoms operator, Globacom.
Other renowned performers to feature at the high profile event are Emmanuel Bezhiwa Idakula, better known as Bez, Bolanle Austen-Peters (BAP) Productions and the Footprints of David.
The event tagged "An Evening with Wole Soyinka and Nigeria's Young Literary Stars" is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2015 at the Convention Centre of Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The evening is being put together to honour selected literary stars that have made great contributions to the growth of literature in Nigeria and have put the country on the world literary map.
Those being honoured along with Prof Soyinka are Caine Prize winners Tope Folarin, E.C. Osondu and 2006 Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa winner, Sefi Atta
Oyelana is a musician, actor, folk singer and composer and a former lecturer at the University of Ibadan. He collaborated with Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, to record a musical album in the 80s that satirically drew attention to the corruption of the Nigerian political elite. Oyelana is credited with having sold the most albums by a Nigerian High Life musician and is one of the most played Yoruba musicians in history.
D'banj is a hugely popular entertainer who has won several music awards on the continent and beyond; the latest being the Evolution Award at the 2015 MTV Africa Music awards, while Bez, is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and composer, with a brand of music known as "alternative soul."
The group performers are also outstanding entertainers. BAP Productions is a production company promoting the Nigerian theatre industry through the production of world-class Broadway style theatre productions.
On the other hand, Footprints of David Art Academy is reputed to be the best children dance troupe in Africa. It is a group with a drive for excellence in Performing Arts and has, since inception in 2005, been using art as a tool to drive positive change in the society. The troupe has won several awards and is committed to turning the troupe members into world class artistes.
