This year's edition of the Battle of The Year competition begins with the Nigeria preliminary for the 2015 international BOTY break-dance championship taking place this weekend Saturday, 22 August at the Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium and on Sunday, 23 August at the Indoor Sports Hall of the University of Lagos.
There will be Bboy crew showcases and battles from the best crews in Nigeria with the winning crew representing Nigeria at the 2015 international BOTY World Finals in Braunshwieg, Germany.
The dance competition commonly referred to as BOTY, is an annual international break-dancing series that began in Hannover, Germany over 20 years ago. Its uniqueness is the battle between break-dance crews as opposed to individual break-dance battle. Regional qualifying tournaments, also known as preliminaries, are held worldwide culminating the World Finals event, which is usually held in Germany.
As the biggest in its genre, the event is attended annually by over 12000 visitors across the world. Battle of the Year is widely regarded as the "World Cup for break-dancing".
BOTY driven by the dance element of hip-hop; (break-dancing) where break-dance crews engage themselves in competitive dance or battle (the "showing off" of dance routines that are planned or improvised) to determine the best break-dance crew in the World. The other hip-hop elements; Graffiti art, DJ'ing and MC'ing are integrated into the side program.
Every year, Battle of the Year features the best and most innovative break-dance crews from all over the world creating an environment for; friendship, international exchange of culture and knowledge.
