The House Leader of Nigeria's House of Representatives and member representing Surulere federal constituency in the House, Femi Gbajabiamila on Thursday commiserated with families of victims of the unfortunate trailer accident that occurred in Ojuelegba, Surulere on Wednesday.
In a statement released by his media assistant, Olanrewaju Smart in Lagos on Thursday Gbajabiamila expressed disappointment in the circumstances that led to the accident he described as avoidable .
" the tragedy that occurred in my constituency on Wednesday, Sept 2, 2015 when a trailer fell over a bridge crushing people to an untimely death was avoidable and preventable. It is now time for legislation or regulation that will prevent such occurrences in future."
The House Leader also lamented the increasing level of trailer accidents in Lagos and further advised that negligence of trailer drivers should be met with stiffer sanctions. " the act of negligence of trailer drivers must be criminalized and people should be held accountable for their negligence. I pray that the souls of the departed rest in peace." , the statement added.
