Following the addition of seven channels (CBeebies, BBC Lifestyle, BBC Brit, TCM, MTV, Maisha Magic East
and Maisha Magic Bongo) to lower-tier packages
earlier this month, DStv is delighted to announce that from 26th of
October 2015, Premium, Compact Plus, Compact and Family subscribers will
have even more reason to enjoy their television viewing experience with the
launch of VUZU and M-Net Family.
Television connoisseurs who have a taste for the bold, risqué series
on Premium's M-Net Edge can look forward to even
more top-notch, boundary-pushing shows that have tongues wagging
worldwide.
“We are very pleased that M-Net Family and VUZU will now be
available to audiences across sub-Saharan Africa. These channels are designed
to, respectively, offer fun family-focused and youth-focused entertainment with
a mix of programming genres,” said Yolisa Phahle, CEO, M-Net Sub-Saharan Africa.
“The two channels, alongside the grittier, adult-focused M-Net Edge, allow us
cater to different but equally important M-Net audiences”, she concluded.
General Manager, Marketing, MultiChoice Nigeria, Martin Mabutho speaking
on the addition said it is in line with the company’s objectives to provide
subscribers with varied and exciting content. “We are firmly committed to
providing the best in quality television entertainment. The inclusion of these
channels is to ensure that our subscribers get more value for their
subscriptions and improved experience across all our
packages”, he said.
Premium, Compact Plus and Compact subscribers will be
introduced to a brand new channel, VUZU (channel 116), which joins its premium sister channel, VUZU AMP
(channel 114) on the DStv platform from October 26. VUZU is an edgy entertainment channel for urban African youth and the
young at heart. It features a mix of international hit series and shows
across a wide variety of genres.
This month, the channel will launch a brand new sci-fi
drama The Messengers along with season 2 of the comedy series Undateable
and the launch of fantasy comedy Galavant and action fantasy series, Constantine
based on the wildly popular comic book series "Hellblazer" from DC
Comics. With its mix of informative street culture news segments on V-Entertainment and its wide variety of genres
including drama, reality, music, magazine and comedy shows, Vuzu is poised to become the new go-to channel for
all things cool in urban youth culture.
Another new channel to Premium,
Compact Plus, Compact and Family packages is the home of family magic, M-Net Family (channel
162), a general entertainment
channel packed with a variety
of high quality international content – from drama and reality series to movies
that will form part of the great family buffet of entertainment. Some of the
exciting programming lined up on the channel include Project Runway, The
Have and The Have Nots, Glee, Cougar Town, The Face UK,
Benched, MasterChef Australia, The Talk and more.
And finally, M-Net Edge (channel
119), which has become renowned for its thought provoking international
series, will continue to premiere first run-programming alongside iconic shows,
but the schedule will be packed with more never-before-seen series that you may
prefer not to watch with the entire family. This means that M-Net Edge will now
be the dedicated home of higher age-restricted programming.
Viewers will soon be able to see the eagerly awaited new
series From Dusk Till Dawn based on the 1996 cult classic by
renegade director Robert Rodriguez, as well as new seasons of Masters of Sex
and the five-time Golden Globe-winning political thriller, Homeland. The
channel also features shows that are not for the
faint-hearted as they are rated 18 SNVL. These include cult favourites
like True Blood, The Wire, Rome, Boardwalk Empire and re-runs of Game of Thrones.
M-Net Edge viewers can also indulge in binge-viewing opportunities on weekends
and early evening double bills, where the previously screened episode of a
series will lead into a brand new episode.
