No big deal kissing male fans on stage... Sensational Singer, Kryztal

Chineye Aharanwa a.k.a Kryztal is a versatile singer who is ready to storm Nigerian music industry with her God- given talent. She's a graduate of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, signed under Heavy Metal Entertainment. In this interview, the beautifully endowed singer spoke on her debut album and what stands her out amidst her female contemporaries.
Enjoy it…

Tell us more about yourself
My name is Chineye Aharanwa, while my stage name is Krystal. I'm a singer, song writer and I do all genres of music. I was among the band that won first runner-up in Star-quest 2011. I'm a graduate of Pure and Industrial Chemistry from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Aside singing, I'm also a voice-over artiste and I do music consultancy.
You said you're a versatile artiste, what actually influences your kind of music?
Basically, my environment plays a major role in my music, God also inspires me and the love for music also influences my music.
We've seen several female Hip-Pop artistes in Nigeria, what exactly stands you out amidst your female contemporaries?
I'm not comparing myself with people but sometimes as a human being; it is good to have people you look at and say, I'm going to challenge this person. But I believe in myself because apart from singing, I have a unique voice and I write meaningful music. So, I'm not comparing myself with Tiwa Savage but I believe in myself.
At what point in time did you discover that you have a unique voice?
Just like the normal old story, I discovered myself when I was very young. I actually grew up in the church choir. From being a member, I was made the director.
Professionally, when did you start music?
I went for Star-Quest in 2011, after the competition, I decided to take it up since it is what I enjoy doing. Before then, I had always been doing it as a hobby but the Star-Quest competition made it official.

You've been in the industry for long now; do you see yourself as someone who is ready for the future challenges?
I'm fully ready; I've never been this sure.
How do you handle male admirers who want more than your musical career?
It is not something I cannot handle. There are some male fans that actually want you not because you're singing. Though, some really appreciate you because you're a singer, so you just have to know when to draw a line.
What is the nastiest thing a male fan has said to you?
A guy once told me he likes my boobs. It is not too nasty but some people just say crazy things to you when you're trying to make them feel your music.
As a musician who is beautifully endowed; who is the man in your life?
(Laughing) I have Jesus in my life.
When are you going to get married to him?
We would talk about that later (laughing).
Could you tell us some of the challenges you faced before you got to this level?
Every artiste faced different challenges especially when you're not there yet (stardom). Number one, no one wants to associate with you until you're already known. Some people look down on you because they feel that, anybody can wake up tomorrow and call himself a musician. Also, trying to break into the limelight is  more challenging because we have many established artistes already.
Tell us about your family background
I'm from a family of five. I'm the second. My dad is from Owerri in Imo State while my mum is from Akwa Ibom State.
Why didn't you study music in school since you started singing at a very tender age?
For instance, my younger brother is planning to write JAMB and he wants to study music but I made him understand that it is not compulsory for him to study music in school. I don't think I needed to study music to be a musician. Though, some people studied music, if it is inside you, you don't really need to go to school to study it. While I was in school, I was always active musically.
The name Kryztal actually started on campus. I've been doing music from childhood and I don't see it as a profession. I didn't know I would be dropping my certificate for music.
If you read on the front page of newspaper tomorrow that you're dating Don Jazzy, what will be your reaction?
It is part of the price you have to pay as a celebrity. So, I'm ready for anything.
Who are the people you look up to in the industry?
2face is a common person, so I try to avoid him but sincerely, 2face is a rare gem. I like 2face, Dare Art Alade because of their unique voices and they don't just do anything like the other artistes. For female, I like Omowumi because she has the craze apart from her scintillating voice.
What type of image are you trying to portray for yourself in the industry?
I just want to surprise people at every point in time. For instance, I'm coming out with Waka Waka which is quite different from the video I just did "As it Dey Hot". As it Dey hot is the crazy image but the Waka Waka is the gentle and soft person. So, at every point in time, I just need to keep surprising my fans. I want to look unpredictable to my fans.
Which of the established artistes have you performed with?
You know I started with band, I've not really performed with some of them. I was formerly in Gloria Ibru's band; I was the only female in her band. So, I've worked and performed on stage with great musicians like Raskimono, Shina Peters, 2face Idibia Alex O, Mike Okri, Oritz Wiliki, Gloria Ibru, Kween and several others.

What was your parents' reaction when you told them you wanted to take music as a profession?
Fortunately, I have wonderful parents that believe in me. My father believes that, I'm the one who will raise the family through music. So, they don't have any problem with my career.
How has your beauty affected your love life?
There is nothing negative about being beautiful, but the only disadvantage is that, people keep coming, you can't say this person is coming because he truly loves you or because you're beautiful, I won't say it has affected my love life positively or negatively. Like I told you, I'm in love with Jesus.
At what age did you have your first kiss?
Do you know that I kissed Jesus this morning before stepping out? I've been kissing Jesus from my mother's womb.
Before you met Jesus Christ, had you been heartbroken?
No, I've not been heart-broken by any man.
So, how many men have you broken their hearts?
Nigerian men can't be heartbroken these days. Their hearts are as strong as iron. For real, I don't think, I've broken anyone's hart before.
Could you tell us the slightest thing that could break your heart?
Insincerity and deceits.
Where would you see yourself before this year runs out?
I see myself in big places, I see myself competing with the likes of Tiwa Savage and other talented female artistes because I believe in myself and I have people around me that believe in my talent.
How do you feel being signed under Heavy Metal Entertainment?
Heavy Metal Entrainment is one of the people that believe in me and my talent. I'm lucky to be under the label.
Do you plan working with other artistes or you're doing the album alone?
For now, I don't really want to bother myself on who to feature, my utmost concern now is coming out strong, carving a niche for myself in the industry. The track on the album is not complete yet. If I have to feature any artiste, I will definitely do it.
While trying to let the audience feel your music, can you kiss a male fan on stage?
The truth is that, as an entertainer, you can't say you can't do it because when I used to sing live band, there were some things that I found myself doing. If I'm doing a love song and situation warrants that; I will do it but that doesn't mean it will go beyond that stage. For instance, you see D'Banj removing his shirt on stage just to make the audience feel his message. So, as an entertainer, anything can happen.
Can you perform on stage with pants and bra?
Anything can happen in the entertainment industry, just take it like that.
What are your hobbies?
Obviously, my hobbies are singing and reading.
