Four months after Yunusa Dahiru, alias Yellow was arrested for his abduction and forced marriage of 14-year-old Ese Oruru in a case which caught national attention, a team of lawyers led by Dahiru, Kayode Olaosebikan, has confirmed the release of his client (Yunusa) noting that “his people have taken him away.”
After meeting his bail conditions, the now chubby looking Yunusa, was set free after spending time at the Okaka Prisons in Bayelsa state following trial on a five-count charge of abducting, inducing by the use of deception and coercion, illicit intercourse, sexual exploitation and unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor.
Yunusa's team of lawyers had fought tooth and nail to free him from prison since March without success, following stringent bail conditions handed down to the suspect by Justice Ajiya Nganjiwa of the Federal High Court, Yenagoa.
But Justice Ajiya later reduced the conditions for sureties in the N3m bail bond from a traditional ruler in Bayelsa state, to any traditional ruler within the country. Justice Ajiya also relaxed the bail condition from a grade 12 and above in the civil service, to a grade 9.
Reports also revealed that a Bayelsa indigene stood as surety for the suspect contrary to the belief that no one from the state could stand for him due to ethnic and religious sentiments being whipped up.
Yunusa has now returned to his family in Kano in the company of his defence lawyers after spending over four months behind bars.
