The just concluded House of Assembly primaries has come and gone leaving many counting their blessings and some rueing their losses. However, it was not all palatable for some notable Nigerian entertainers who decided to veer into politics as they found the political turf to be thorny and tougher than their usual comfort zones. AHMED BOULOR writes...
Kenneth Okonkwo (Andy)
Frontline Nollywood actor, Barrister Kenneth Okonkwo has backed out of the forthcoming PDP primaries slated for December 6, 2014 as the state chapter of the PDP jettisoned zoning in Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency.
The veteran actor stepped down following the Nsukka/ Igboeze South stakeholders meeting at the Governor's lodge on December 3, 2014 where the Governor of Enugu State openly endorsed the former chairman of the party, Vitta Abah who is from Nsukka East in contradiction to the zoning arrangement which ought to zone the House of Reps ticket to Nsukka West.
The actor who hails from Nsukka West thanked all his fans, friends and family for their support during his campaign.
Dayo Adeneye (D1)
Kennis Music honcho and popular entertainment personality, Dayo Adeneye lost his bid to represent Odogbolu constituency at the Ogun State House of Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dayo, better known as D1 in entertainment circles, lost the ticket to his opponent at the party's primaries held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014.
To this end, Dayo will not be able to represent his constituency at the Ogun Assembly under APC except he flies another party's ticket at the 2015 election.
On the other hand, the outcome of the results may not have gone down well with many of the electorate, especially the youths in Odogbolu area of Ogun State with sources claiming that an unpopular candidate was imposed on the party.
But despite his failed bid, close sources say "Dayo remains and will always be loyal to APC and would do all in his capacity to ensure his party's success at the forthcoming general elections."
Kenny Saint Best (KSB)
Contemporary gospel singer Kenny Saint Best who had been vocal about her political intentions in the media in the past months lost out in her quest to represent the Ikeja 01 Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly come 2015.
During the primaries that took place in Lagos KSB lost out to Folajimi Lai Mohammed, son of the APC chieftain and National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed.
Folajimi Lai Mohammed is presently the managing director of Knightsbridge Dredging Limited and he holds a LL.B Honours degree bagged at the University of Kent, Canterbury, UK; LL.M at Fordham Law School, New York City, US and B.L. with Honours at Council of Legal Education and Nigerian Law School in Nigeria.
KSB joined a host of other entertainers veering into the political arena earlier this year when she declared her intention to represent Ikeja 01 Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly come 2015.
It is unclear what KSB intends to do next after her failed bid to realise her political ambition at least for now.
Desmond Elliot
Popular Nollywood actor, Desmond Olushola Elliot defeated his opponent at the primary elections of the All Progressive Congress (APC), conducted last Tuesday.
Having won the ticket at the primary election, the Nollywood star actor emerged as the candidate to represent Surulere constituency at the incoming Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) in 2015.
Desmond defeated his counterpart, Mr. Kabiru Lawal to represent the people of Surulere constituency in Alausa.
Desmond Elliot was able to pull support from his people when women and youths in Surulere Constituency endorsed the star actor for the Lagos House of Assembly.
Tony Tetuila
Days after ex-Remedies member Tony Tetuila announced his ambition to contest for the forthcoming general elections many were surprised at his courage.
But when the blond haired artiste came up with his campaign poster, which looked more like a promotional poster for a forthcoming music jamboree rather than a political poster, doubts began to creep in about the seriousness of his intent to step into bigger shoes.
However, days before the elections political stalwarts in Ilorin told the musician to keep his aspiration on hold and advised him to wait for his turn.
The APC party stakeholders in Kwara State decided to eventually decided to jettison Tony
Tetuila who was contesting for a House of Reps seat in his state of origin, Kwara State.
Tony's name was not mentioned at the primaries and he was not there for the primaries as well.
