New movie channel introduced by M-NET

Satellite TV providers M-Net will launch a brand new, feel-good movie channel - M-Net Movies Smile, which will offer plenty of chuckles for the entire family. As the name signals, this is the channel guaranteed to make viewers smile.

What’s more, the month of July will also bring with it new changes that include the revamp of M-Net Movies Showcase. The addition of M-Net Movies Smile (DStv channel 105) and the revamp of M-Net Movies Showcase (moving from DStv channel 108 to 107) will mean that three of the existing movie channels - M-Net Movies Comedy (DStv channel 104), M-Net Movies Family (DStv channel 105) and M-Net Movies Romance (DStv channel 107) will no longer exist. Fans of these channels should not despair as the content previously available on these three channels will be consolidated into the new M-Net Movies Smile and the revamped M-Net Movies Showcase channels to ensure that viewers continue to enjoy their favourite movie genres.

What’s more, DStv will add more value to the Compact Plus and Compact packages with the addition of M-Net Movies Stars which will bring viewers more entertainment with the best of Hollywood blockbusters while Africa Magic Igbo (DStv channel 159) will be made available to the Family and Access packages from July.
These channel changes are part of M-Net’s efforts to streamline its channels in order to enhance DStv subscribers’ viewing experience. From July, the number of movie channels will be trimmed down from nine to seven well-curated movie channels that will feature a fewer number of older library movies in the schedule to keep the movie offering new and fresh.

From 1 July, the M-Net Movies channel cluster will include:
  • M-Net Movies Premiere West will now be on channel 108. It will continue to bring you the latest, biggest and best premiere movies – anything from Kevin Hart comedies to Oscar-winning dramas.
  • M-Net Movies Smile - channel 105 on DStv Premium is the new kid on the block that will keep everyone who’s young at heart entertained with fantastic animated and family-friendly films. Then once the kids have gone to bed, the grown-ups can enjoy sidesplitting comedy with the likes of Adam Sandler or Melissa McCarthy.
  • M-Net Movies Action Plus - channel 106 on DStv Premium will still showcase the biggest, most explosive action movies. Watch Vin Diesel, Keanu Reeves and all the action heroes save humanity from all kinds of evil.
  • M-Net Movies Showcase - channel 107 on DStv Premium. Apart from being able to indulge on this channel’s usual host of lovely festivals, box sets and franchise specials and to watch the blockbuster movie that previously premiered on Sunday nights every night in prime time, this will now also be the go-to destination for all romantics that want to be swept away by love stories and enchanting storytelling.
  • M-Net Movies Stars – channel 111 on DStv Compact, Compact + and DStv Premium.  You can continue to enjoy the company of Hollywood’s A-list stars in exactly the same way as before.
  • M-Net Movies Zone – channel 139 on DStv Family, Access, Compact, Premium and GOtv. Movie Zone lovers across the different DStv packages will not be affected at all.
  • Africa Magic Igbo - channel number 159 will now be available to Family and Access, bringing you the best of the best in local series and film.

Other exciting changes coming in July include VUZU AMP which will find a new home on DStv channel 103 – previously occupied by M-Net Movies Premiere. The popular VUZU AMP’s out of this world TV entertainment will now be found in the same neighbourhood as the ever-popular M-Net and M-Net Edge channels. With VUZU AMP moving to channel 103, the M-Net Movies channels will now occupy channels 104 to 111.
